Mon amie
16'6" Tandem Canoe
The Mon amie is a longer version of the Ami. Both canoes are modified versions of the Chesnut Pal.
While inspired by the Pal, there are significant differences. It has a bit harder bilge giving Mon amie more initial stability. While this would normally tend to make a canoe slower, the arched hull in the center is gathered into a shallow "V" at the ends which gives it a finer entry from the Pal. This, combined with it's additional length, make the Mon amie noticably faster than it's mentor.
This hull design rattled around in my head for several years before making it to paper and then into a form for production. It was meant to retain the frienly all-around nature of the Pal though with some increased perfomance. On the initial trials it feels about the same, though Mon amie is definitely quicker than the Pal. It also stiffens up sooner when leaned. I think it tracks better, yet turns easily. On a quiet evening at a friend's pond this canoe is a real joy to paddle! I am looking forward to further adventures with her, mon amie - my special friend!
Moderate tumblehome, 1 1/2" of rocker with a shallow arched bottom.
